The John Bett Memorial Trophy raising money for Prostate cancer was held on another lovely summer evening , there was a good turnout including non bowlers and some new bowling members. To their dismay some of the possible contenders for taking the trophy were knocked out in the first round, however they soon overcame their disappointment and headed for the bar.
The final between Ray Nicklin and John Melia got underway with John taking an early lead, Ray however found a mark that worked for him and soon clawed back the points to take the trophy.
Well played to both and indeed to all the gents who made the evening such a success.
A big thank you to all our members for once again rising to the occasion donating prizes and digging deep on the night to raise a fabulous £330.00 Lloyds Banking group will match fund this giving a total of £660.00 for Prostate Cancer UK
Sunday 9th July the Pro-Am in aid of Wombourn's High Flyers raised a fabulous £452.00, thanks to everyone who came along and joined in and supported with the raffle and tombola. The bowling was good too on this beautiful day, the final of the main competition was Jacky Phillips and Stuart Thomas v's John Stokes and Nigel Parsons with John and Nigel taking the title in a close run came 21 - 17, the consolation final was between Matt Webb and Jason Tudor v's Derek Pearce and Alan Hinton with Jason and Matt taking the title in this competition, well done though to Derek getting this far as he was very new to the game of bowls. A special cup for Callum Pearce being our youngest bowler on the day. All uncollected raffle prizes will be behind the bar with a list. Thanks again for all the terrific support.
The annual Judy Griffiths Memorial trophy was played last night in aid of Breast cancer and this year we had a beautiful night for our ladies singles. We had a good turnout and it was good to see some non bowlers taking part also. We raised on the night nearly £400 this will be price matched by LLoyds with the help of Michelle Bett. So all in all a good night was had. The final was between Allie and Vicki, second time around they have met in the final and this time Allie got her own back, sorry Vicki . A great big thank you to everyone on the night for their generous donations.
