A big thank you to all who played in and supported the Charity Pro-Am day Sunday 4th September! Played in support of local Scout Group 2nd Penn (actually a Wombourne group based in Battlefield Lane near the Red Lion) to help purchase new camping equipment, we had a great turn-out and some fantastic bowling from Pros and Amateurs alike.
Congratulations to the ProAm champions John Stokes and Marion Elkington! They played brilliantly all day to claim the trophy but had a real battle in the Final against Connah Warr and Karen Bett. After forging ahead to gain a big lead, John and Marion were pegged back by Connah and Karen to a tight finish, but held their nerve to take the win. Well bowled to both final pairs - a great game.
In the Consolation Cup (played by those who lose their first round matches), there was more fierce competition, with Glyn Phillips and Eileen Jones finally overcoming Alan Hinton and Charlotte Phillips to take the silverware. Again, well done to both pairs and congratulations to Glyn and Eileen!
Thanks to all our "Ams" for taking part - we hope you all had a good day and enjoyed your day on the greens!
And finally: the grand total raised passed the £700 mark by close last night and we believe there is still a little more to come in. A terrific effort from everyone involved in running the day and all those who donated, contributed, raffled, marked, measured, competed, watched and supported - thank you and well done to one and all!
We look forward to welcoming you all back for ProAm 2017!
Another successful night at the Club as we
raised money for the fight against Breast Cancer whilst the ladies competed for the Judy Griffiths trophy. Sixteen took part in a fun filled evening of fund raising and fantastic bowling, with our
eventual finalists being defending champion Vicky Cooper (winner in 2014 and 2015) and challenger Joan Walker; both of whom are seen here at the start of the
final with Captain Chris Hayward. Vicky started in top form and streaked (not literally!) into an early lead; but fortified by a quick swig of her drink
(gin?), Joan fought back to inflict Vicky's first defeat since 2013 and claim the trophy! Well bowled both and many congratulations Joan!
As ever though, we all wanted the real winner to be the Breast Cancer charity in Judy's memory; and thanks to your hard work and generosity we made that happen! A fantastic effort raised in excess of £400 on the night and once again Lloyds Banking Group are matching this to take us over the £800 mark (thanks Michelle!). Well done and THANK YOU to all who organised, donated, contributed, bowled, measured, sold raffle tickets and football cards and otherwise supported the evening! We're proud of you all - well bowled everyone!!
